|---|---|---|
L. David Eveningthunder is a self-taught contemporary Native American artist. He traces his heritage to the Lamhi Band of the Shoshone Nation and is an enrolled member of the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes. Born at the Western Shoshone Hospital, he calls United States Indian Country home. David paints and draws in an array of media. He specializes in portrayals of contemporary American Indian pow wow dancers. Many of the dancers he depicts are personal friends and acquaintances although some are composites of several different tribal members. He attends an average of fifty-six pow wows a year throughout the United States. A man of many and varied talents and interests, he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Sam Houston State University in Texas with a Major in Sociology and a Minor in Psychology. He also earned an Associate Applied Science Technology-Electronics and a certificate as an Electronic Technician, and Associate of Arts in General Studies as well as an Associate of Arts Degree. Before graduation, David founded Eveningthunder’s Contemporary Native American Arts (C’NAA). Indian owned and operated since 1989, this is one of the most visible pow wow businesses in existence. David paints and draws from his life experiences at many Indian Reservations and pow wows. In the course of his travels, his art has won numerous awards and honors. Although he enjoys the acclaim, his most fervent hope is that his art work will be remembered in a historical perspective perpetuating the cohesiveness among all peoples and preserving the Native American culture through his artistic ability. He desires to bring to a deeper understanding of the American Indian Culture to all people. Perhaps, more importantly, he is pleased by the thought that people collect his work not only for its aesthetic value but for its investment value.
